The FIT Method: How Testing Plus Nutrition Transforms Health

Close up of colourful bowl of food

You've tried the diets, the supplements, the 'just cut out gluten' advice from your colleague. So why do you still feel rubbish?

Here's something I've learned in over 20 years of practice: most people aren't failing at being healthy. They're just guessing.

They cut out dairy because a friend did. They buy the supplement an influencer swears by. They try another 30-day plan, feel better for a week, then end up right back where they started, only more confused and with a cupboard full of powders.

Guessing is exhausting. It's expensive. And it rarely gets to the root of why you feel the way you do.

That's exactly why I created the FIT Method: a simple approach that swaps guesswork for answers, then turns those answers into a plan that fits your real life. Here's how it works, and what it's looked like for some of the people we've worked with.

The FIT Method: three letters, one roadmap

Yes, the name is a little bit clever. Each letter is a step on the road from confusion to clarity.

First: what do you actually want help with?

'Improve my health' is a pretty big assignment. 'I want to get through the afternoon without crashing' gives us somewhere to start. So does eating out without anxiety, making sense of results you already have, or finally stopping the diet-of-the-week cycle.

So before anything else, I get curious. What's changed? What have you tried? What would feeling better let you do? Sometimes the next step is testing. Sometimes it's reviewing what you already have. And occasionally it's a trip to your GP first. You don't need to arrive with a shopping list of tests.

F: Functional testing. Find out what's really going on. Instead of guessing, we look. Depending on your symptoms, that might be food intolerance testing, female hormone testing, a gut microbiome assessment or a Complete Health MOT. We choose the test that answers your question, not the most expensive one on the shelf. My favourite question before any test: what decision could this result help us make?

I: Individualised nutrition. A plan built around you. Results on their own are just numbers on a page. This is where they come to life. Your personalised plan turns them into real food: meal ideas, recipes, smart swaps and, where it's useful, targeted supplement advice. No generic templates, no 'eat clean' lectures, and nothing that requires you to live on kale.

Your results become a conversation, not a verdict. We go through them together, alongside your history, so you can ask the questions that pop up the moment the report lands: Does this explain how I feel? What do I change first? Is there anything to take to my GP?

T: Targeted support. Help for real life. The best plan in the world is useless if it falls apart at your first dinner out. So we help with the bits that actually trip people up: eating out, family meals, busy weeks, reintroducing foods and knowing what to do when things wobble. You're not handed a PDF and waved off.

Because personalised nutrition has to survive a busy Tuesday. That might mean a more substantial breakfast, lunches you can actually take to work, satisfying swaps during a dietary trial, or a sanity check on the supplements already in your cupboard. If a food comes out, we plan what replaces it and when it might come back. (Need inspiration? Raid our Recipe Hub.)

And we review progress, rather than collecting more rules. Is the plan manageable? Are meals enjoyable? Are energy, digestion or skin moving in the right direction? That's how we fine-tune it into something you can keep doing.

The FIT Method in real life

I could talk about the method all day (ask anyone who's met me). But it's far more powerful to see what it's looked like for real people.

Lorna: ten years of weekly migraines

Lorna had lived with weekly migraines for more than a decade. We combined food intolerance testing and hormone testing to look at both sides of the picture, then built a personalised nutrition plan with a short kick-start supplement programme and ongoing support.

'Migraine-free for over two years, something I never thought possible.' Lorna Sanders

She also told us she has more energy and feels more confident managing her own health. We didn't treat food and hormones as separate puzzles.

Eleanor: a lifetime of eczema and night-time bloating

Eleanor had struggled with eczema and hand dermatitis for as long as she could remember, plus bloating that crept in every evening. Her Advanced Food Intolerance Assessment pointed to cow's milk as a likely trigger, so we built a balanced plan around targeted dairy changes, rather than cutting out everything at once.

'The results have been amazing.' Eleanor Mayne

Eleanor reports clearer skin and a big boost in confidence. (If dairy's on your mind too, read Lactose Intolerance vs Dairy Allergy.)

Nicky: years of gut trouble and daily bloating

Nicky had lived with gut problems for years, and bloating had become part of her everyday life. After her Advanced Food Intolerance Assessment, she got a personal plan with meal ideas and supplement advice, plus an eight-week kick-start to help her put it into practice.

'The gut issues have pretty much disappeared.' Nicky Dunning

She reports that the daily bloating has stopped and she now makes smarter food choices with confidence. Her story shows the bit people often underestimate: the practical support after the results.

These are individual experiences shared by FIT clients, with their permission. Everyone is different, results vary, and no test or plan can guarantee a particular outcome. What they show is what's possible when testing and personalised support work together.

Why testing alone isn't enough (and neither is nutrition alone)

Here's the bit most testing companies won't tell you: a test result on its own doesn't change anything. I've met so many people clutching a results report from somewhere else, with a long list of foods highlighted in red and no idea what to do next. So they cut out everything, feel miserable, and give up.

The opposite is just as frustrating. Generic nutrition advice, however well-meant, is still a guess if it isn't based on what's going on in your body.

The magic happens in the middle:

That's why every FIT test includes a personalised nutrition consultation. Already have results from somewhere else? Bring them along, and we'll help you make sense of them.

Where would you start?

Not sure which test fits? Here's a quick cheat sheet, with a guide for each if you want to dig deeper.

Your questions, answered

Do I need a GP referral? No. You can book directly. If anything you tell us suggests something that needs medical attention first, we'll always point you to your GP.

Do I have to have a test? Not at all. You can start with a General Nutrition Consultation to talk through your symptoms and goals. Testing is an option, not an entry requirement.

Will I have to cut out lots of foods? There's no standard 'avoid' list. Any dietary trial has a clear purpose, tasty replacements and a plan to review it.

Are supplements always part of the plan? No. We'll discuss them where they're genuinely useful, considering your diet, medicines and anything you already take. A longer supplement list is never the sign of a better plan.

How are the tests done? Each test page explains exactly how the sample is taken and what's included. If you're unsure, the free review is the perfect place to ask.

What happens after my results? You'll have a personalised consultation to go through them, then a practical plan built around your results, your tastes and your routine. Follow-up sessions are there if you want ongoing support.

What if I've already had a test elsewhere? Bring the full report, including dates and reference ranges, plus a list of any medicines and supplements. We'll look at it alongside your symptoms and history and help you work out what to do next.
