Functional Testing & Laboratory Testing
FIT Nutrition & Testing Clinic may offer or recommend a range of functional health tests, including but not limited to:
• IgG food intolerance testing
• microbiome testing
• hormone testing
• blood biomarker testing
• nutritional status testing
• allergy screening panels
These tests are designed to provide additional health insights that may help guide personalised nutrition strategies.
Testing results are not medical diagnoses and must always be interpreted within the context of:
• symptoms
• diet history
• health history
• lifestyle factors
Testing should not replace medical evaluation.
Important Information About Food Intolerance Testing
Food intolerance testing measures IgG antibodies, which may indicate a delayed immune response to certain foods.
Unlike food allergies, food intolerance reactions:
• are typically delayed
• are not life-threatening
• may occur hours or days after eating
Common symptoms associated with food intolerance may include:
• bloating
• digestive discomfort
• fatigue
• headaches
• brain fog
• skin irritation
• joint discomfort
However, food intolerance testing does not diagnose food allergy or disease.
Food allergy diagnosis requires medical assessment and IgE testing through a healthcare professional.
Important Considerations Before Testing
Foods must be in your diet
For an IgG reaction to be detected, the food must have been consumed regularly before testing.
If a food has already been removed from the diet, it may not appear reactive in results.
Do not reintroduce foods that cause symptoms
If you already know a food causes significant symptoms, you should not deliberately eat it again simply to make it appear on the test.
Your wellbeing should always take priority.
Some foods may require regular consumption
If a food is rarely eaten, it may need to be consumed regularly for several weeks before testing for any immune response to be detectable.
A negative result does not rule out all sensitivities
Food reactions may occur for reasons other than IgG antibodies, including:
• enzyme deficiencies (such as lactose intolerance)
• FODMAP sensitivity
• digestive enzyme insufficiency
• microbiome imbalance
• other non-immune food reactions
Medications may affect results
Certain medications, including steroids or immunosuppressants, may influence antibody production and therefore affect results.
The test does not diagnose coeliac disease
Food intolerance testing does not diagnose coeliac disease.
Coeliac disease requires medical testing through a GP or specialist.
Interpretation of Test Results
At FIT Nutrition & Testing Clinic, testing results are interpreted within the context of the whole clinical picture, including:
• symptom history
• diet patterns
• lifestyle factors
• digestive health
• overall nutritional status
Testing is used to guide a structured nutrition strategy, often involving:
1. A temporary elimination phase
2. Gut health support
3. Gradual reintroduction of foods
Elimination phases are typically temporary (around 12 weeks) and foods may often be reintroduced over time.
