The Treat That Behaves Like Nutrition

At FIT we never take treats away. We just make them work harder. These dark chocolate date bites are exactly that - gooey, satisfying and genuinely indulgent, made from four real ingredients with no refined sugar, no ultra-processed fillers and no compromise on flavour. Perfect for lunchboxes, post-workout fuel or an evening chocolate moment without the blood sugar crash afterwards.

Ingredients

  • 10–12 Medjool dates, pitted

  • 3 tbsp natural peanut or almond butter, unsweetened

  • 80g dark chocolate, 70–85% cocoa (dairy-free, such as Green and Black's Organic)

  • Pinch of sea salt

Optional toppings

  • Crushed peanuts or cacao nibs

  • Flaky sea salt

  • Drizzle of melted nut butter

Method

Slice each date lengthwise, not fully through, to create a pocket. Remove the pit if needed.

Fill each date with around half a teaspoon of nut butter. Add crushed peanuts if using.

Melt the chocolate gently over simmering water or in short microwave bursts, stirring until smooth.

Dip each filled date halfway into the melted chocolate or drizzle over the top. Place on baking paper.

Refrigerate or freeze for 15–20 minutes until firm. Store chilled and enjoy when cravings strike.

Why It Works

Medjool dates provide slow-release energy and natural fibre to support digestion, without the spike that comes from refined sugar. Nut butter adds healthy fats, plant protein and magnesium, which supports stress response and sleep. Dark chocolate at 70% cocoa and above is rich in polyphenols that reduce inflammation and support the gut-brain axis. Together, this combination slows glucose release, prevents energy crashes and helps manage cravings over the course of the day.

Easy Variations

For lower sugar, use 85% chocolate. For extra protein, stir a scoop of protein powder into the nut butter before filling. For a festive version, add orange zest or a pinch of cinnamon to the chocolate before dipping.

FIT Tip

These keep in the fridge for up to seven days and in the freezer for up to three months. Make a batch at the weekend and keep them on hand for the week. Defrost for five to ten minutes before eating straight from frozen.
